2023-24 Field Trip Series
The Appalachian Theatre presents its inaugural School Field Trip Series during the 2023-24 school year. These school-day experiences provide students with opportunities to encounter the performing arts in our beautiful historic theatre. Field trip shows are priced at $2 per seat and reservations are available on a first-come first-served basis for school groups and homeschool students.
The Appalachian Theatre’s Education Fund is underwritten by Chris Petti with additional support from Boone Sunrise Rotary.
Behind the Scenes School Tours
App Theatre’s Behind the Scenes Tours are an excellent stand alone field trip experience or make a great add on to any visit to Downtown Boone. Students receive a guided tour of the facility, enjoy a brief historical documentary and a 1930’s film short. Add-on options include popcorn, concessions, full-length film showings and engaging theatrical workshops. We can tailor the experience for any grade level.
Available by request on weekdays. A standard tour is free for attendees and lasts a minimum of 45 minutes.
Intro to Irish Music featuring One for the Foxes
Dynamic new transatlantic trio, One for the Foxes, presents an introduction to Irish music in this demonstration and lecture. Featuring Ireland’s Tadhg Ó Meachair (piano, accordion) and Dave Curley (vocals, guitar), alongside Colorado’s Joanna Hyde (vocals, fiddle). Merging varied backgrounds in Irish and American folk music, this band’s highly personalized sound emerges in a manner both eclectic and grounded.
Recommended for grades 2-12. Tickets are $2 per student.
The Polar Express
Watauga County kindergarten classes are invited to don their PJ’s and enjoy the holiday favorite film The Polar Express (2004).
Set on Christmas Eve in the 1950s, it tells the story of a young boy who sees a mysterious train bound for the North Pole stop outside his window and is invited aboard by its conductor. On his journey he learns about friendship, bravery, and the spirit of Christmas.
There is no charge for students and their chaperones to attend the film. A movie snack pack add-on is $2 per student.
Jack & the Beanstalk presented by Barter Theatre
Jack is different from the other kids: every time it rains, he hears beautiful music up in the sky. Then one day the rain stops, and the ensuing drought forces Jack into town to sell his beloved cow, Bessie. Before he gets there, he meets a swindler who sends him instead on a madcap adventure up a magical beanstalk—an adventure that includes six quick-changing actors playing an entire town full of people, a Goose that lays golden eggs, a singing Golden Harp, and one angry Giant! Performance is one hour in duration. Recommended for grades K-6.
Los Cumbia Stars Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month
Los Cumbia Stars kick-off Hispanic Heritage Month in Boone bringing their Colombian tropical music and stories of their international musical journey. Performance is one hour in duration. Recommended for grades K-12.
